13. Melchizedek
This mysterious figure has always baffled Christian theologians. Many say he was a type of Christ, which He was, because his name means "King of Peace." Jesus Christ is the ultimate King of peace, and the Prince of Peace:
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
These are Scriptures about this King Melchizedek:
Genesis 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
Psalm 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
He is not mentioned again afterward.
In Genesis 14, Melchizedek was performing the function of High Priest to Abraham, symbolizing the later High Priesthood of Christ. In Psalm 110, King David confirms that Jesus Christ is indeed that High Priest forever, taking the sacrifices of prayer and praise from His children, and offering them up to the Father.
Jesus Christ is our King, our High Priest and our Great Prophet, never to be confused with any worldly worship of men. Man can never perform the duties of Christ, because man is sinful. Man cannot forgive sins, but only Jesus Christ can. To assume that man can forgive sins, as in the Roman Catholic cult, is blasphemy. Christ alone is sinless, so He is the supreme Sacrifice for our sin; God embodied in flesh.
1 Peter 2:21, 22 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
This verse commands us to follow Christ alone. He gave us many examples while on earth, and we now have the completed and infallible Word of God, which is the Lord Jesus Christ in written form, a.k.a. the Word made flesh:
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Christ wrote the King James Bible, so it is without error or fault. It is called the Word of God and the Word of Christ, because Christ is God. It's a shame many despise the truths found in the Word, but the world hates it because it convicts them of their sin and exposes it in its brilliant light. That is why it is banned from the public schools, and very soon society itself. I could go chasing a rabbit trail of how the PERversions (NIV, NKJV, ESV, NASB, Gay bible, Feminist's bible, etc.) eviscerate and nullify the King James Bible, but I will save that for another post.
Let us look to the Heavens for our soon coming King. Let us be ready, with our loins girded and our lights burning for Him Who promised to meet Him in the air at the last trump. If you are not born again, now is the time to believe that Jesus Christ, our King and High Priest, gave His life for you on the cross. He died, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Will you believe He did this all for you?
